McGUIRE, John Kevin With deep sorrow, the McGuire family announces the death of Kevin, suddenly, on January 1, 2007 at 73 years of age. Kevin is the husband of the late Theresa (Neville) McGuire, companion of Sheila Johnson, father of Michael (Ottawa), Shaun (Ottawa), Jennifer (Toronto) and Tim (Whistler). Brother of Michael (Ottawa) and of Maureen, Paul, and Elizabeth, all who predeceased him. He is Grandpa Bubba to Patrick, Timothy, Cormac, Kathleen, Matthew, Conall and Georgia. Father-in-law to Lois, Helen and Jimmy. Brother-in-law and uncle to family both in Canada and the United States. Kevin was born in Ottawa. Attending St. Patrick's College High School, Kevin was part of championship teams in basketball and football. He was also a member of city and provincial Sr. Men's basketball teams (Joe Fellers), a team that was successful in reaching the Canadian finals. Kevin followed his father into the pulp and paper industry and had a very successful career with several companies including C.I.P. and then as a consultant. His career took the family to many communities across Canada including Gatineau, Hawkesbury, Kenora, Saint John, La Tuque and Ottawa. His work also took Kevin to the U.S., South America, and Europe. In retirement, he worked with Chuck Brown's Golf, where his love of people and golf found the perfect marriage. An avid volunteer, Kevin worked on election campaigns, for the Catholic Church, and as an elected School board trustee. For the last several years he has been a tireless volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society, which honoured him for the work he has done supporting fellow cancer patients. Beloved by many, Kevin had a joie de vivre that was infectious. He was a life master in duplicate bridge. He loved a joke - good or bad. He loved to tell stories. He loved people - especially his family and friends. Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 2370 St-Joseph Blvd., Orleans, Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Friday to the Notre-Dame Cathedral, 385 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, for Mass of Christian Funeral at 1:30 p.m. Interment Notre-Dame Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Published in the Ottawa Citizen from 1/3/2007 - 1/4/2007
