Sister Lucille MARTIN (Sister Mary Lucille) A Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke, Ontario died in Pembroke on the 4th day of January 2007 in the 58th year of her Religious Life. Left to mourn are the members of her religious community, her brother, Patrick (wife, Barbara), nieces, nephews and many friends. Predeceased by her parents, Gerald Martin and Mabel Gorman. Sister Lucille was born in Ottawa, on December 16th, 1925. She entered the Grey Sisters' Community on September 15th, 1949. Having previously obtained her degree at St. Patrick's College, Sister Lucille attended O.C.E. in Toronto in 1951. Her teaching career began at Immaculata High School, Ottawa where she taught science classes for six years, after which she was appointed Head of the Science Department from 1960-67. Following a total of eighteen years teaching at Immaculata, Sister Lucille was elected to the Grey Sisters' General Council from 1970-77. She was elected Superior General of the Grey Sisters' Congregation in 1977, a position she held for the next four years 1977-81. Sister Lucille's ministries were many and varied over the years, including Coordinator of Personnel and Program Planning for the Grey Sisters' Community, Parish Assistant at St. Paul's, Toronto and in Yamasa in the Dominican Republic, Pastoral care in several areas, Mission Education at St. Patrick's Home, Ottawa, as well as a move to the Health Care System as Coordinator of Leadership Development. In her retirement years, Sister Lucille continued to serve, volunteering in the adult faith community. R.C.I.A. and Pastoral Care. In 2005, failing health necessitated a transfer to Shalom, Marianhill Residence in Pembroke, Ontario. Resting the Sarah Centre, 700 Mackay Street in Pembroke, Ontario, on Sunday, January 7th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Special Vespers in the Chapel 7:00 p.m. Liturgy of the Resurrection in the Marguerite Centre Chapel on Monday, January 8th, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. Interment in St. Columba's Cemetery, Pembroke, Ontario. Arrangements by the Neville Funeral Home, Pembroke. Published in the Ottawa Citizen from 1/5/2007 - 1/6/2007
