NEEDHAM, Helen Eloise - Died peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2004. She was predeceased by her parents, Lila Mae (Wright) Rae and William Rae. Eloise Needham was born on September 25, 1908 in Meldrum Bay, on the Manitoulin Island in Ontario. She was married to Albert (Bert) Edward Richard Needham in 1945 until his death in 1994. She lived for many years in Northern Ontario, primarily Iroquois Falls and it was there that she started her teaching career and met Bert. Many wonderful summers were spent on Sesekinika Lake, near Kirkland Lake, where later she instilled a love of the north in her daughter, Wilma. A beloved kindergarten teacher, she continued to teach when she and Bert moved to Niagara Falls and constantly remembered by name her many students and their stories. Eloise stopped teaching when her daughter was 6, but continued this skill through work in Sunday School at the St. John's Anglican Church in Niagara Falls (Stamford area). Her artistic interests made great contributions to the fund-raising work of the church. She was an inventive parent, encouraging all manner of creative outlets in her daughter, Wilma, who now teaches at NSCAD University in the Fine and Media Arts Divisions. She was totally smitten with her granddaughter, Elena, who loved to play clarinet for her. A life long bridge player, she maintained her bi-weekly sessions for over 35 years enjoying the company of her dear friends. Always amiable, she modelled a generosity of spirit that brought her many friends and the devotion of her family. She leaves behind her daughter Wilma and her partner Richard Sanderson and Elena, their daughter. A Private Family Graveside Service was held in Fairview Cemetery on Friday, January 16, 2004.
