WOJCIECHOWSKA, Amelia (Bandura) 1915 - 2007 Peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital, on Sunday, January 7, 2007, just three weeks short of her 92nd birthday. Predeceased by her husband Wlodzimierz Bandura, Ami is deeply mourned by her daughter Grazyna and her son-in-law Otch, her grandchildren Robert (Beatrice), Anne (Julian) and Phil (Vanessa), her great-grandchildren Amelia, Tommy, Anna, Ella Lou, Philip Robert, Anne-Therese and Nicholas, as well as by friends in Canada and all over the world. Born in the mountains of Zakopane, Poland, in 1915, Ami grew up to become a registered nurse. After meeting and marrying her husband in Warsaw, she and her family spent many years in Gdynia, on the northern coast of Poland. Ami moved to Canada in 1964 and was proud to become a Canadian citizen shortly thereafter. She worked at the Ottawa General and St. Vincent Hospital before retiring and travelling the world, visiting her daughter and diplomat son-in-law in Germany, Colombia, Singapore, her native Poland, Malaysia and Ecuador. Known for her elegance, originality, sense of humour, abundance of energy and love of children, frogs, birds, Polish cuisine, gardening and the colour green, Ami will be sorely missed by all who had the good fortune to know and love her. Special thanks go to the staff of the Glebe Centre for their care. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 10, at 5:00 p.m. at St. Hycinth (Sw. Jacka) Polish Church, 201 Lebreton Street N. in Ottawa. A private reception will follow. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Amelia, donations may be sent to the Glebe Centre at 950 Bank Street, Ottawa, Ontario K1S 5G6, (613) 238-2727 ext. 323.
