BAGLIERI, Giovanni (JOHN), passed away peacefully on January 10, 2004 at the age of 78 with his family by his side. Born in Termini Imerese, Province of Palermo, Sicily to the late Salvatore and Josephine Baglieri. Survived by his wife of 52 years Rosa (Merlino), his sons Sam (Heather) of London, ON and Tony (Louise) of Chippawa. Loving and devoted grandfather (Nonno) of Shannon (Josh), Sam (Nicole) Matthew (Carey), Brandon, Adam (Heather), Jonathan (Amanda) and Evan, step grandfather to Sarah. Uncle of Sam Restivo (Mary), brother-in-law of Josephine Lallo and her late husband Louis of Niagara Falls, N.Y., Peter Merlino (Antonina) and Anna Milano (Antonio) and their families. Also survived in Italy, by sisters Giovanna, Lucia, Enza and brothers Carmelo and Salvatore as well as many nieces and nephews. John was employed at Hodgson Steel in Niagara Falls for 26 years before retiring in 1990. John was an avid gardener and we will miss sharing in the fruits of his labour. Our heartfelt thanks go out to all good friends, family, neighbours who sat with us in the hospital, sent food, called or said a prayer, and supported Rosa and her family in this difficult time. To the Rotary Club for funding the Sunrise Room on Unit D., a warm homey, comfortable place where John was able to spend his last days as quietly and peacefully as he lived his life, we thank you for your foresight. To Dr. Leung, the Niagara Falls Ambulance Service and the nursing staff of Unit D. for their kind and conscientious care, their understanding and compassion we thank you. You helped guide us through a very trying time and allowed John to leave this earth peacefully and with dignity. The family will receive friends at the Niagara Funeral Home, 5647 Main St. Mon. Jan. 12, 2004 from 3-4 & 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass to be held on Wednesday Jan. 14, 2004 at St. Ann's Church at 10:00a.m. (please note change of time) Rite of Committal to follow in Fairview Cemetery. Vigil prayers will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
