BROWN, Hugh Carey Hugh died on July 19, 2004 while visiting his sister in Victoria, B.C., at the age of 89. He was born in Montreal on November 14, 1914, the second son of Edwin and Agnes Brown. He was educated at Montreal West High School and McGill University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1936. On graduation, he joined Canadian Westinghouse, working in Hamilton and then Winnipeg. In 1940, he enlisted in The Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. He was involved in heavy fighting in Italy, and later in Holland, where he was Mentioned in Dispatches, and promoted to Captain. After the war, he returned to Canadian Westinghouse until his retirement in 1977. In 1950 he married Lois Stoneman. They resided in Ottawa and Montreal. His beloved Lois predeceased him in 1993. Hugh was an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion, and the Army Officer's Mess. Hugh was predeceased by his brothers Gordon, Clifford and Norman and a nephew Robert. He is survived by his only sister, Lois Rae Newsham of Victoria, his daughter Jill (John Hopkins) of Ottawa, his son Richard Stoneman (Nancy) of Toronto and grandchildren David, Heather, Katie and John. Uncle Hugh will also be missed by his nieces and nephews. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod St., Ottawa, on Monday July 26, from 10 am until service time in the chapel at 11 am. Reception to follow.
