GINSBURG, Thea (nee Schatz) Cherished wife and beloved friend for 60 years of Martin, passed away on June 2nd, 2007, at the Ottawa Heart Institute. Thea was the treasured mother of Joan (Paul Katzeff), Janet (Eric Cohen), Andra, Merle, and Joel (Yuriko Futaki) and dearly loved grandmother of Jonah, Molly, Emma, and Rie. Thea was born in Toronto, the daughter of Alexander and Rose Schatz. Thea was a fine athlete; a strong swimmer, tennis player, and skier. She served as a Wren in the Navy during WWII and was stationed overseas at Bletchley Park in London. After the war, Thea worked as a model and part-time secretary in a dress factory. She was a voracious reader, a lover of the arts, and deeply committed to social issues. She derived enormous pleasure from faithfully listening to Saturday Afternoon at the Opera. She was devoted to her many relatives and friends. Sincere thanks to the caring staff at Hillel Lodge. Donations may be made to Hillel Lodge or the Parkinson Society of Ottawa. A Funeral Service will be held in the New Jewish Community Cemetery Chapel, Osgoode, ON on Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at 1 p.m. Arrangements in care of the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry.
