ROFFEY, Donalda 'Non' (nee Cowan) 1922-2004 It is with deep sorrow that the family of Non Roffey announces her death on Sunday, July 18, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer. She has been the very loving wife and best friend of Alan Roffey for over 60 years and beloved mother of David (Karen), Lucas (Adrienne) and Philip who died in infancy. Her grandchildren Simon, Maia and Benjamin and step-grandchildren Sarah, Claire and Rosie will miss her loving hugs and kisses. Non was 5th of 9 children of Alex and Nellie Cowan of Ottawa. She is survived by her next older brother Eric and his wife Jean of Nova Scotia and Devon, England, her youngest brother Philip and his wife Marie of Houston, Texas, and in-laws Doreen Cowan, Joan Cowan, Terry Younghusband and John Jarrett and his wife Heather. Brothers Harry, Ben (and his wife Audrey), Teck and Bud, and sisters Lal Younghusband (and her husband Charles) and Norma Jarrett predeceased her. Non will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews and their families with whom she kept in contact and for whom she showed loving concern and interest in their activities. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends and relatives between 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 22 at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Avenue West (2 stoplights west of Yonge Street). A service of thanksgiving for the life and love of Non and for the great contribution she made to her family, church and community will be held at the Anglican Church of St. Philip the Apostle, 197 Caribou Avenue (2 blocks south of Lawrence Avenue West and 1/2 block east of Bathurst Street in Toronto) at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 23. A reception will follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, condolences may be expressed by donations to the Primates World Relief and Development Fund, 80 Hayden Street, Toronto, Ontario, M4Y 3G2 or to the Freeman Palliative Care Clinic at the North York General Hospital, 4001 Leslie Street, Toronto, Ontario, M2K 1E1. Non's family wishes to acknowledge the tremendous loving and very professional care that she received during her illness from the doctors and nurses of the Freeman Clinic, the Calea Palliative Care organization and the North York C.C.A.C. and from the staff of the retirement home Amica at Bayview and to also express their deep thanks for the many visits, flowers, cards and prayers from friends and family.
