SAVAGE, JUDGE BRIAN GERARD - 1916-2007. With great sadness we announce the death of Judge Brian Savage which occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton on June 10, 2007. Born in Melrose, Westmorland Co., New Brunswick on May 15, 1916, the son of Joseph Daniel and Maude (Barry) Savage. He was a graduate of Port Elgin High School and the Provincial Normal School. He later attended St. Thomas University at Chatham and St. Francis Xavier University from where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in 1939. After graduation he joined the New Brunswick Rangers Infantry Battalion where he was a Sergeant-Major instructor. He received his commission as an officer in 1944. After the war he studied Law at the University of New Brunswick and received his Bachelor of Civil Law in 1946. Upon admission to the Bar of New Brunswick in the fall of 1946, Mr. Savage joined with W. Gerald Stewart in the practice of law in Moncton under the firm name of Stewart and Savage. He became active in public affairs and during his years in Moncton, served on the Moncton City Council, the Westmorland County Council, was President of the Moncton Liberal Association and other community associations. He was appointed as a Solicitor for the City of Moncton in 1960. Mr. Savage then moved to Fredericton and was appointed to the Bench of the New Brunswick Provincial Court in 1969. He retired from that position in 1981 and enjoyed life, good health and good friends and fellowship since. Judge Savage is survived by his wife, Shirley Johnston Savage who he married in 1950; one son, Shane, and his wife, Rose, of Moncton; a daughter, Tara, of Fredericton; four grandchildren, Lindsay, Brian, Emma and John, all of Moncton; one brother, Dr. Gerald J. Savage of Wilmington, Delaware; brothers-in-law, R. Douglas Bannon of Moncton; Lynwood Johnston (Goldie) of Johnston's Point, N.B., and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, one brother, Vaughan Magee Savage, his sister, Eileen Bannon, Moncton, N.B. and sisters-in-law, Josephine Savage, Delaware, and Iris Savage, Nova Scotia. Judge Savage blessed his family with absolute love, an over-abundance of good humour and an appreciation for life. We say farewell to a man of overwhelming kindness and generosity, to a man who possessed a genuine interest in each and every person he met, to a great man who will long be missed and long be remembered. The family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Tom Barry and all the caring nurses and staff of the Chalmers Hospital. Visitation at McAdams Select Community Funeral Home will be held on Tuesday, June 12 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A chapel service will take place at McAdam's on Wednesday, June 13 at 2pm.
