DE BURGER, Florent - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of our much loved father, grandfather (Pit), and great grandfather. Dad died on June 15, 2007 at the venerable age of 91. Florent was predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years, Alice van den Branden in 1977. Florent was born in Clinge, The Netherlands on December 2, 1915. Our dad was raised on a farm and even through his life took other paths, in his heart remained a farmer forever. He immigrated to Canada with Alice and 4 children in October of 1951, settling in the Sudbury area where they remained until 1969 when the family relocated to Wallaceburg. While in the Sudbury area, Florent worked at Creighton Mine for INCO for 12 years. He and Alice operated variety stores in Whitefish and Wallaceburg until 1979 when they retired. Florent was a member of the Wallaceburg Seniors' Centre and past president of the C.B.D. Archery Club. Dad was a man of principle and very deep faith. His priority in life was always his family, delighting in the accomplishments of his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. We will miss you forever. He is predeceased by his parents Johannes de Burger (1946) and Julia Willaert (1918) and his stepmother Philomena Bruggeman (1973). He was the last remaining member of his family. Also predeceased are his brothers, Frans, Charles, Bernard, his sister Maria, a daughter Marianne (1953) and a son (Willy) (1960). He is survived by Erna (Alex) of Sudbury; Ron (Frances) of Oakville; Frank (Karen) of Sudbury; Liesje (Bert) of Oshawa; and Lillian (Daryl) of Wallaceburg. Sadly missed by 12 grandchildren, Jacqueline (Scott), Michelle, Allison (Rey), William (Charlene), Grace (Mark), David (Michelle), Paul (Angela), Kerry (Kathy), Patrick (Siobhan), Joshua, Mallory and Kaleena. His great- grandchildren will miss their Pit; Emily, Rachel, Trent, Matthieu, Evan, Brennan, Ethan and Dylan. Friends were received at the ERIC F. NICHOLLS FUNERAL HOME, 639 Elgin St, Wallaceburg until the Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday June 19, 2007 at 11 a.m.from Our Lady Help of Christians Church, with Fr. Philip Joseph, Celebrant. Interment was in Riverview Cemetery, Wallaceburg. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Liver Foundation may be left at the funeral home. As a living memorial, a tree will be planted in Nicholls Memorial Forest in memory of Florent de Burger. 10705828
