After 37 years of service with INCO he retired and was very much at home at his beloved property on lake Manitou. He there built a fine house amidst an orchard and garden in the wilderness. The peace and serenity of the water, rocks, trees and sunsets filled him with great joy. John has lived his life with enthusiasm, spirit and an ever inquiring mind. He excelled at any and all endeavors he undertook always giving his best. He was a great neighbour and a wonderful friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Dear son of John and Kathleen Whelan (predeceased). Beloved husband of Dolly (Haldin) Whelan and a devoted father to Sharon (Tom Marcolini) of Sault Ste. Marie, Deborah (Denis Leane) of Calgary, John of Toronto, and Melanie of Calgary. A cherished grandpa of Matthew, Amy, Elizabeth, Sean, Courtney and Quinn. A very dear brother of Desmond (predeceased), Anthony (predeceased), Kevin, Brendan and Marie of Ireland. He was a much loved brother-in-law and uncle to many nieces and nephews. The family wish to extend a special thanks to all who reached out to help him throughout his short illness. He received excellent care from all his medical advisors at the Lively Medical Centre, Lively IDA, the Regional Cancer Centre, the volunteer drivers, the CCAC & the Sudbury Regional Hospitals. Loved with a love beyond all talking, Missed with a grief beyond all tears.
