Lorne Pacey of Temagami died peacefully June 4, 2007, at Temiskaming Hospital in his 92nd year. A member of the Royal Canadian Air Force for five years, he served overseas during the Second World War. He was a long-time businessman in Temagami, working in partnership with his brothers, Verdun and Jack, and as an independent insurance agent. He was a presiding justice of the peace for 25 years and also served as padre of the Temagami Royal Canadian Legion branch. Mr. Pacey was past District Deputy Grand Master of the Nipissing East District of the Masonic Order and a member of the Board of General Purposes of the Grand Lodge of Canada for the province of Ontario. He was the first Lay Presbytery chairperson in Northern Ontario for the United Church of Canada, past vice-president of the Temiskaming and District Hospital board, a member of the Temagami Station Restoration project and a member of Temagami Community Foundation’s board of directors. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Verla (Goddard); son Grant (Sheryl) of Stittsville; grandchildren Shane (Sooyoung) of South Korea, Brendon and Evan of Stittsville; brothers Verdun (Dorothy) of Temagami and Allan (Jill) of North Bay; and sister-in-law Ruth of Calgary. Mr. Pacey was predeceased by his brother Jack and sisters Verla (Frank McCulloch) and Violet (Wilfred Despres Sr.). The family extends its thanks to the Temagami Ambulance Service, Temiskaming Community Care Access Centre, Rainbow Providers, members and friends of the Temagami community, Temiskaming Hospital staff, the staff of Perrin Funeral Chapel, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Friends may pay their respects Friday, June 8, at Temagami United Church from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Temagami United Church followed by a Royal Canadian Legion service. A funeral service will be held at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Temagami at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9. Contributions may be made in his memory to Temagami United Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
