RODGERS, Lt Col (Retired) Robert Alexander, CD, M.Ed. "Bob" 1914 - 2007 After a long and extraordinary life, Bob passed away on Saturday, June 9 at the age of 93. He is survived by his sons Bob (Joan) Rodgers, Onanole, MB, Mike (Jane) Rodgers, Kingston, ON, daughter Peggy (Mike) Bouris, brother Don (Shelia) Rodgers Winnipeg, MB; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and members of the Rodgers, Taylor and Nix families. Bob was predeceased by his wife Alice (Nix), brother Jim Taylor; sisters Marge Whelon and Kathleen Burrows. Bob grew up in Stirling, ON and Winnipeg, MB and married Alice in 1939. Bob's many adventures and achievements included serving in the Royal Canadian Artillery (1939-1964) including tours of duty in England during WWII and participating in the liberation of Holland. Bob went on to serve as Chief Instructor Gunnery at the School of Artillery in Shilo, MB, as Canadian Military Liaison officer in Fort Munroe Virginia and with the International Control Commission in Laos. Following his service in the Canadian military, Bob resumed his first career as a teacher, retiring in 1977 as Vice-Principal of General Panet High School in Petawawa, ON. Bob had great pride in his careers in the military and education, as well as his membership with Shriners, Masons, Legion and the Rotary Club. Retirement provided time for Bob to explore the world with Alice; golf in Mercedes, Texas; and spend time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob moved to Somerset House in Victoria, BC in 2001 and enjoyed the final years of his life with walks by the sea which reminded him of the wide open prairie skies and engaging friends and family in heated debate. Bob will be remembered for his generosity, stubbornness, and commitment to his family. Thank you to the Victoria Hospice Society for their care and attention during Bob's last days. Donations to the Shiners Hospitals for Children or your local Hospice Society are appreciated. Immediate funeral arrangements are being handled by First Memorial Funeral Services Victoria BC. Interment will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in Winnipeg, MB at a later date. Published in the Ottawa Citizen on 6/16/2007
