MITCHELL, Robert C. (Bob) July 4, 1931 - June 16, 2007 Former Nepean and Regional Councillor and MPP for the Riding of Nepean-Carleton It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Robert C. (Bob) Mitchell. Bob is survived by wife Lee (Colburne), their five children Robin (John Sparks), Steven (Cindy), Jeffrey (Joyce), Melanie (Chris Reid) and Sandy (Bill MacWilliam) and his grandchildren Crystal (Mitchell Anderson), Jeffrey, Caitlin, Laura, Mitchell, Sarah and Miranda as well as two great-grandchildren Taylor and Riley. Bob will also be deeply missed by his partner Elaine Powell and her children, as well as brothers James, Walter and Donald. Upon leaving the Royal Canadian Air Force, Bob moved his family to Nepean, beginning a 20 year career with the National Research Council (NRC). He worked tirelessly as a Scout Leader, Nepean Township Centennial Chair, volunteer for City View United Church, hockey coach, and a President of the Crestview Community Association. He received the Citizen of the Year Award for the Township of Nepean in 1967. Having entered into politics in 1969 as a Nepean City Councillor, he went on to become Deputy Reeve of the Township of Nepean and also represented his constituents on Regional Council as well as being a member of the Queensway-Carleton Hospital Board of Directors and Chair of the fundraising committee for the Nepean Sportsplex. In 1980 Bob was elected to the Ontario Provincial Legislature, where he served as a Parliamentary Assistant and Cabinet Minister. Upon his retirement, Bob was a Lobbyist for the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) in Toronto, where he continued to work up until recently. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital for the care and compassion they demonstrated. At Bob's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A celebration of Bob's life and accomplishments will be held on Wednesday June 27th, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the RA Center, 2451 Riverside Drive, Ottawa. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Queensway-Carleton Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice.
