WINTER, Peter John LCol. CD. G.G.F.G., C.H. of O. Peacefully at home, surrounded by his beloved family on June 19, 2007, aged 77. Born and educated in Bournemouth, England he emigrated to Canada in 1954 and joined the Public Service in 1955 and completing 35 years with the Dept. E.M.R. Travels with his work took him to a total of 35 countries and he was a member of 2 polar expeditions. He began his military career by serving 3 years in 2 Para Bn. UK Airborne Forces with the occupying forces in Germany. His service in Canada was in the Militia, 1960 to 1984 where he became a LCol in the GGFG and in 1975 assumed Command of the Cameron Highlanders. He was a PGS of GL of Quebec, member of King Solomon Lodge, Coronation Chapter and St. Justins Conclave. He was a member of the Order of St. Lazarus and served as Commander of the Ottawa Commandery ('92-'93) and Custodian of Insignia for 10 years ('88-'98). He is survived by his wife, Doris, sons Brandon (Ruth), Graham and daughters Deborah (Tayloe) of Seattle, Beverley (Keith), Lorraine (Stanley) and Helene (Gayle), 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 1255 Walkley Rd (east of Bank) Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral to Church of the Resurrection, 3191 Riverside Drive (south of Walkley Rd.) for service Friday at 2 p.m. Condolences at Published in the Ottawa Citizen on 6/20/2007
