KIRKPATRICK, GERTRUDE C. - Gertrude Constance Kirkpatrick (nee Browne) of Wirral passed away peacefully on June 18, 2007, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, NB with her family and loved ones by her side. Born February 17, 1920, Gertrude was the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Browne (nee Thompson). Gertrude spent her early years on the West Side of Saint John, where she worked for a time at Eastern Bakeries. In 1940, she and her parents moved to Hoyt where she met her future husband and partner of 60 years, Weyman Kirkpatrick. Together they raised their five children on the family farm in Wirral. Gertrude was always proud of her family and took joy in their accomplishments. As a youth, her dream was to become a nurse, but in raising her family, Gertrude took care of all of those around her. A wonderful loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to her caregivers, Gertrude will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her. A lifelong member of the Wirral Baptist Church, Gertrude loved music and was blessed with a beautiful alto voice which she used in many choirs. Her faith never waivered. She held many positions in the church over the years and particularly loved teaching Sunday School. Gertrude was a member of the Wirral Hospital Aid, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hoyt Volunteer Fire Department, the Orange Lodge and the Wirral Community Organization. She spent many hours enjoying her crossword puzzles, knitting, quilting and could often be found weeding her flower and vegetable gardens. Gertrude is survived by her children, Margo (Roger) Montreuil, Gail (Lary) Willis, and Robert (Estelle) Kirkpatrick all of Wirral, NB; Dorothy (Ken) Charlton and Marion (Curtis) Swim of Woodstock, ON, and her sister-in-law, Pearl McLaughlin of Central Blissville, NB. Her grandchildren, Roderick, Tanya, Jeannette, Tammy, Scott, Kari, Jennifer, Scott, Erinn, Eric and Jeremiah, 17 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews will miss her humour and her wit. Besides her parents, Gertrude was predeceased by her husband, Weyman Kirkpatrick and in-laws, Abner and Mary Kirkpatrick. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to June Peterson and Leah Rogers, Gertrude's caretakers, who have given such care and comfort to her over the past few years enabling her to stay in her own home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 from 2-4 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. at the Sunbury Funeral Home, Central Blissville, NB, and on Thursday, June 21st from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Wirral Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 21st at the Wirral Baptist Church. Interment to follow in the Wirral Baptist Church Cemetery. Due to allergies, the family respectfully requests ONLY artificial flowers. In Gertrude's memory, donations to the Alzhiemer Society, the Wirral Baptist Church or to the Canadian Red Cross Society would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Sunbury Funeral Home, Central Blissville, NB, (506) 368-2413. June 20, 2007
