HARLEY, LILLIAN ANN "LIL" - Surrounded with the love of her adoring daughters, Ann Marie and Mary Lou, passed away peacefully in the early dawn on Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, Nova Scotia. Lil was the cherished wife of John Edward "Eddie" Harley, who recently passed away. The separation (18 days) since Eddie's death is the longest they have been apart in 61 years of marriage. They dated before WWII and after it took them apart, they never let anything else come between them. Any problems of one day were settled that day before the kiss good-night. They were married June 6, 1946 and the joy of their love lives on. Formerly of Saint John New Brunswick, Lil spent decades sharing her handicrafts, good food and hospitality. She shared her talents in the Catholic Women's League including home baking, jams and pickles, quilting, knitting, crocheting and sewing, for fund raising. She made beautiful clothes for her daughters. Lil taught rug hooking for many years and her rugs are works of art with intricate shadings. Lil always had a little feast for friends from the Beaus and Belles when they came back to the house for more music and laughter after the square dance. Lil and Ed's home was open with food, comfort, and loving warmth for a visitor at any time. In Windsor at Gladys Manning Retirement Community for the last few years, Lil has enjoyed the chatting at supper and a card game with her community of friends. Her favourite evenings were those spent in teasing rivalry over a game of cribbage with Eddie or in warm conversation with the family. Lillian, daughter of Charles Wilkins and Barbara Ann (Annie) Wilkins (nee Foley) was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, July 26, 1914. She was predeceased by her husband, Eddie, her sisters, Frances and Madeline (Madge), and her brother Louis. The family of Lil and Eddie are so thankful and blessed to have had this remarkable couple with us into their ninety-third year. Lil is survived by her daughters, Ann Marie (Blaine Pemberton); Mary Lou (Martin Thomas); grandchildren, Andraya (Randy Foubert), Andrew Gillen, and Tiana Harley-Thomas (Michael Arbou), and great- grandson, Boston Foubert. The family expresses appreciation to Andrew Dill and the staff of Gladys Manning, Windsor Pharmasave, Dr. Niall Buckley, and the wonderful care givers, Shirley, Barb, Judy, Margie, Betty, Terry and Dianne, for their friendship and loving support for Lil. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Monday, June 25, at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 339 King St., Windsor; reception will follow at Gladys Manning, off College Road. Interment is at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Saint John New Brunswick. Family flowers only; please donate to a charity of your choice.
