KACHUR, William “Bill“ - A pioneer and long term resident of Elliot Lake for more than 50 years, passed away peacefully on the 29th of June 2007 at the St. Joseph's General Hospital in Elliot Lake with his family by his side. Bill who was born in Montreal, moved to Toronto in 1952, then onward to Elliot Lake in 1956 where he established a 33 year career working in various mines for Rio Algom (Quirke, Milliken, Nordic, Quirke II) and Denison. He is survived by his wife Rita (nee Albert) of 47 years, formerly of Blind River. Also survived by his children Wesley Morris (Debra) of Ottawa, Linda (Don Lashbrook) of Elliot Lake and Dan (Christine) of Sault Ste. Marie. Proud grandchildren are Katherine (Sean), Shawn (Sarah), Ley (Cathy) all of Ottawa, Selena (Neil) of Winnipeg, Nicole (Leonard) of Sault Ste. Marie, Kaitlin of Elliot Lake, Kelsey and Kendra of Sault Ste. Marie. Bill and Rita enjoyed spending their most recent years together at their cottage on Big Basswood Lake where they enjoyed the outdoors and social time with cottage neighbours and friends. For those who may not have had the opportunity to know Bill, he was a gentleman with kindness and compassion who had a positive outlook on life and most of all, he appreciated living every day to the fullest. Family and friends will be received at the ELLIOT LAKE FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATION CENTRE (36 Ontario Ave.) on Thursday July 5 from 9:30 until the time of service at 11:00 am from Our Lady Of Fatima Parish. Internment to follow in Woodlands Cemetery, Elliot Lake. Memorial contributions to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Arthritis Society would be appreciated by the family. With sincere appreciation, the family wishes to acknowledge Dr. Tim deBortoli and staff for the many years of caring and dedicated health services they have provided Bill. In addition, a heartfelt thank you to the ICU staff for your support and again to Dr. deBortoli for being by Bill's side, working tirelessly into the early morning hours of June 29.
