BENEDICT, James “Butter“ “Tohtsirathe“ - Mr. James “Butter“ Benedict “Tohtsirathe“, 53, of 9607 East Arbor Circle, Mesa, Arizona, a native of Akwesasne, died unexpectedly Friday (July 6, 2007) at his home in Arizona.He was born October 31, 1953 in Syracuse, the son of David and Theresa Leaf Benedict. He attended schools on Cornwall Island. He first married Claire Thompson, which ended in divorce. He then married Deborah Seymour, that marriage also ended in divorce. He was currently working as a security guard in Arizona. He had previously worked as a security guard for the Canadian Customs. He also owned and operated a junk yard business and was a car salesman at one time. He also worked as an ironworker with Local #823 in Montreal, until transferring to Local #711. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing and at one time was a stock car racer; he also enjoyed antique cars. He is survived by 2 sons, Norman and Cody Benedict, both of Cornwall Island; a daughter and her common law husband, April Benedict and Kenneth Square, Cornwall Island; 7 grandchildren, Chase, Alexandra, Jade, Damian, Mikenzie, Gauge, and McKayla; 4 sisters and their husbands, Margaret Benedict, Cornwall Island; Jean and Dennis Jocko, Cornwall Island; Rita Terrance, Racquette Point; Darlene and James Gray, Akwesasne; 3 brothers and a sister-in-law, Silas Benedict, Cornwall Island;Stanley Benedict, Saranac Lake; Benson and Ida Benedict, Raquette Point; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.He was predeceased by a brother, Chester Benedict, 2 half sisters, Betty and Pauline Leaf. Friends may call Friday 2-9 PM at the DONALDSON FUNERAL HOME, Massena. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 11:00 AM at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. George H. Belgarde, SJ, celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, St. Regis, Quebec.Condolences may be made online at 10739207
