Dawn Virginia Palmer February 16, 1924 - November 7, 2008 - PALMER, Dawn Virginia Lower Sackville. With her family by her side, Dawn passed away peacefully November 7, 2008, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, after courageously battling a brief illness. Dawn was born in Windsor Forks on February 16, 1924, and was a daughter of Robie and Annabelle Palmer. At the age of two and a half, Dawn had spinal meningitis, which seriously impacted her life. She and her family moved to Waverley in 1940 and she worked in the family owned and operated business, Palmer's Lodge. After her parents' deaths, Dawn moved to Prince Edward Island and lived with her sister Thelma and her family for over 10 years. She then moved to Lower Sackville, resided with her sister and brother-in-law, Sue and David Grace for over 25 years and played a major role in raising "her" family, Angela Dawn (Bruce Patterson), Lower Sackville; Danielle (Sjors Reijers), Ottawa; Michelle (Dave Donaldson), Beaver Bank; Scott, Lower Sackville, and very special great-niece, Morgan Cowan-Patterson, and nephews, Bruce and Liam Patterson. With her family, Dawn travelled and spent vacations in the United States, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, and for many years, weekends found her at the family cottage in Moser River, where she enjoyed friends and annual lobster feeds. Dawn also loved animals and her Himalayan cats, Coco and Smokey, still live with David and Sue. Dawn provided unconditional love and care to this family and will remain in our hearts forever. Dawn, in addition to Dave and Sue and their family, is survived by her sister, June Ross (Bill), Sackville/Berwick; niece and nephews, John, Greg and Kim Pickard, and the Palmer family, nephew and nieces, Dwayne, Debbie, Linda, Judy, Holly, and Margo. Dawn was predeceased by her brother, Henry (in infancy); sister and brother-in-law, Charles and Thelma Pickard, and brother and sister-in-law, John and Betty Palmer. For the past three years, Dawn made her home in Ocean View Manor, Eastern Passage, and the family appreciates the care and concern given to Dawn by the staff and volunteers. We would especially like to express a heartfelt thank you to the nursing staff of floor 8.2 at the QEII. The care you provided to Dawn was outstanding and your empathy for and assistance to the family is deeply appreciated. A memorial service will be held in Atlantic Funeral Home, Sackville Drive, on Friday, November 14, at 11 a.m., with reception to follow. Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
