Mrs. Margaret Hillsden February 22, 1921 - November 10, 2008 - HILLSDEN Margaret Trudgeon Nordlund Hillsden, 87, died unexpectedly on November 10, 2008. Margaret was born on February 22, 1921 in Whitewood, Saskatchewan to Florence and Arthur Trudgeon. It was in this town that an honest and practical Christian prairie girl was raised. In 1941, Margaret moved from her home in Whitewood to the Lakehead to marry her first husband, Alex Nordlund, and remained in Thunder Bay. They eventually moved into her beloved home on John Street Road where she would live for nearly the entirety of her adult life. It was this home that she raised three children, lost her husband Alex, embraced her neighbours on John Street as lifelong friends, and it was also here she lived with her second husband Robert. In 1989, Margaret married Robert Hillsden, who was her best friend, loving companion and dance partner. Bob doted on Margaret for nearly 20 wonderful years of marriage. Theirs was a fated match. Meeting while square dancing, Margaret and Bob enjoyed the fellowship of dear friends in their square dancing group, a group Margaret was a member of for nearly 30 years. Together Margaret and Bob enjoyed a life full of friendship, laughter and fun. Margaret had an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and always wore a small, gold cross around her neck. She found immeasurable strength and peace in her faith and often said “He knows the way I take”. It was His compassion that she offered so freely to everyone she met. Margaret dearly loved the world He created. She delighted in the many trees and flowers in her garden and the birds and deer that would visit her there. Margaret was also a voracious knitter. Many friends and family are the proud owners of the finely made afghans, mittens and scarves that she crafted with such care. Margaret enjoyed long Sunday drives with Bob, exploring local back roads, often stopping for an ice cream or some lunch. She was also a skilled baker and in good health and poor, she was the inspired creator of delectable breads and sumptuous sweets. Margaret met each of life’s challenges with aplomb, a charming laugh and without complaint. She always had a smile to offer, a kind word and a warm embrace. Her hugs could heal the deepest wounds. Margaret loved her family and friends and she made certain each person knew they were not only special to her, but in her thoughts and Prayers. She also often mailed wonderful letters, cards and photographs to loved ones both near and far. Her thoughtful advice and wisdom was always insightful and beneficial. Margaret is survived by her devoted husband Robert Hillsden; her children Arthur (Diane), Beverley (Craig) and Patricia (Terry); her sister Mary; brother John; seven grandchildren Eric (Paula), Marc (Joanna), Christine (Matt), Maija, Drew (Shay), Karri and Amy; five great grandchildren Samantha, Matthew, Stephanie, Sabrina and Jonah and her innumerable nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her first husband Alex, her sisters Dorothy and Emily and her brother William. A remembrance of Margaret’s life will be held at First Baptist Church, 308 Red River Road, on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Peter Charlebois officiating. Donations to George Jeffery Children’s Foundation or Round Lake Bible Camp would be appreciated. JENKENS FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE
