Lawrence Edwin "Eddie" McCLARE August 6, 1931 - November 11, 2008 - McCLARE Lawrence Edwin “Eddie” McClare, age 77, of Hillsvale, Hants County, passed away Tuesday, November 11th, 2008, in the Q.E.II Health Sciences Centre, V. G. Site, Halifax. Edwin was born on August 6th, 1931, in Windsor. Nova Scotia, and was the son of the late John Horace and Alice Victoria (Lyon) McClare. Edwin was a life time resident of Hillsvale and was a former partner in McClare Brother’s Lumber. He was a member of the Welsford Masonic Lodge No. 26 A.F. & A.M.; the Hiram Chapter No.3, Royal Arch Masons; Adinoram Council No. 10 and Mount Zion Preceptory No. 73, Knights Templar. He received his fifty years pin from various Masonic organizations. Edwin was very good at ritualistic work in all the organizations; was a very faithful and well liked attendee in all Masonic work where he was respected by his fellow lodge brothers. He served as a Deacon in the South Rawdon Baptist Church and was also a Sunday School Superintendant for over thirty five years. Edwin enjoyed many crafts and hobbies including woodworking, carving and painting. He had a great love and passion for home, family and friends in the community. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Edith Mary Fletcher; son, Peter (Christine) McClare, Newport Corner; daughters, Beverly (Ralph MacDermott) McClare, Grand Pre`, Kings County; Glanda “Glen” (Gene) Pavelich, Kenaston, Saskatchewan; Lorraine (Andrew) Vernon, Millerville, Alberta; grandchildren, Nicole Vernon, Calgary; Robert Vernon, Calgary; brothers, Rev. Donald (Pearl) McClare, Windsor; Walter McClare, Hillsvale; Layton (Doreen) McClare, Fredericton, New Brunswick; sisters, Pauline Goldsmith, Dartmouth; Edith (Budd) Paul, Dartmouth. Besides his parents. Horace and Alice (Lyon) McClare, Eddie was predeceased by two brothers in infancy; and by step-mother, Leta (Neaves) McClare. A Masonic service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, November 13th, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor, with visitation to follow from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, November 14th, 2008, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Clarence Bungay officiating. A private family interment will take place in the South Rawdon Baptist Church Cemetery, South Rawdon.
