Mr. Donat Lucien Audy July 29, 1912 - November 15, 2008 - It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Donat Lucien Audy on November 15, 2008 at the age of 96 years. Donat was a resident of Good Shepherd Villas, Prince Albert, SK having resided there since June of 2007. He had spent the greater part of his life on the family farm near Albertville, SK. Donat was born at home near Henribourg, SK on July 29, 1912, the second child and only son of Ozias and Evelina Audy. He was educated at Emilebury School and spent his entire working life farming the family homestead. Having lost his father to the tragic influenza epidemic of 1918, it fell to Donat at the tender age of 6 years to become the man of the house. With a family of 6, only a few acres of homestead under cultivation and no one to work the land, it became a matter of survival for the family to supplement their income by any means available to them. There were cows to milk and care for along with various other farm animals including for a time sheep and honeybees. Later in his life, Donat was also very involved with the formation of the Albertville Telephone Company, serving as a director and 16 years as Secretary Treasurer. He was also a founding member of La Caisse Populaire of Albertville and served as a board member from 1950 – 1988. He retired from farming in 1980 and continued to live on the farm until moving to Prince Albert at the age of 93 years. Donat had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great storyteller. He had a talent for gardening with a well-stocked root cellar as proof. Donat was a great walker and could also be seen riding his bicycle along the country roads near his farm. His ability to walk long distances is evident in a story he once recounted of having purchased a buckskin horse against the advice of others who referred to the animal as a “man-killer” for it had indeed once killed a man. He kept it for a time, eventually deciding to sell it in Prince Albert. As the horse was unsafe to ride, he walked it all the way from the farm to Prince Albert – a daylong journey and returned that evening by bus. Not having any children of his own left him free to indulge his nieces and nephews especially on their annual summer vacations to his farm. There were tricks and stories and after church on Sundays always a trip across the road to the General store with the invitation for each of us to pick out a bottle of pop and a favorite treat with Uncle Donat picking up the tab. Donat was predeceased by his parents, Ozias & Evelina Audy; his sisters Dora and Irene Audy and one brother-in-law Edward Quintal. He leaves to mourn his passing his sister Yvonne Quintal of Prince Albert and her family, Louise (Gerald) MacLeod of Saskatoon and family, Robert Quintal of Saskatoon and family, Denise (Lee) Fernquist of Calgary, AB and family and Paul Quintal of Rosetown; his sister Cora (Henry) Gilbertson of Saskatoon and their family Jackie Treutler of Edmonton, AB and family, Ron (Debbie) Gilbertson of Edmonton, AB and family, Lorraine (Robert) Hopkins of Brandon, MB and family and Denis (Julie) Gilbertson of Saskatoon and family. He is also survived by numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. Prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 20 at River Park Memorial Chapel – 301 River Street West. Father Clifford Tremblay will officiate. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 21 from St. James Roman Catholic Church by the Reverend Father Tuyen Vu. Interment will follow at St. James Roman Catholic Cemetery. It is the family’s request that donations be made to Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation – 2217C Hanselman Court, Saskatoon, SK S7L 6A8. Family and friends may send email condolences to www.riverparkfuneral.ca. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of RIVER PARK MEMORIAL CHAPEL. 764-2727 Kimberley Stevenson
