Mr. Lloyd Jenkins Young September 12, 1926 - November 24, 2008 - Lloyd Young passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 24, 2008, following a short illness. Dad leaves to celebrate his life: his brother Lew Young (Donna); sisters Alma Peterson and Claire Johnson (Albert); sisters-in-law Vivian Young, Ruth Young, Lin McKinney, Mary Anderson, Muriel Anderson, Bernice Anderson and Stephanie Anderson; his children Jo-anne Paskaruk (Jerry), Audrey Branch (Randy), Colleen Cain (Randy) and Trevor Young (Charlene); his grandchildren Jerri-Lynn Palmer (Mark), Benjamin Paskaruk, Debbie Toole (Ray), Janet Silde (Marv), Chad Cain, Jenna Cain, Spencer Young and Rebecca Young; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous dearly loved nieces, nephews and special friends. He was predeceased by his wife Bernice (nee Anderson); his sons Murray and David; his parents William and Irene; his brothers George, Bruce and Glen; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Carl and Victoria Anderson; his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Harold Peterson, Russell Anderson, Rodney Anderson, Ronald and Georgina Anderson; Lionel Anderson, Wendell Anderson and Thorild Anderson; niece and nephews Roger Anderson, Wendy Anderson and Colin McKinney. Dad was born in Glenella, MB on September 12, 1926. When he was 6 years old the family moved to Minnedosa, MB where he spent the next 45 years. In 1944, Dad enlisted in the army and took his basic training at Camp Borden, but before he was able to deploy overseas the war ended. At this point the farm boys were given the choice to stay in the army or go home to help with the harvest. They were strongly urged to go home because the need for wheat was so great. Dad returned to the farm to work with his family. In 1950 he made the “long trek” to Prince Albert, SK to attend the Covenant Bible Institute, where he met the love of his life. On November 15, 1952 he married Bernice Anderson from Fonehill, SK. They settled on the family farm in Minnedosa. Later, to supplement the farm income, Dad began work at Agristeel (a local farm implement manufacturer) working in tool and dye. Dad then worked on the Agristeel farm testing these implements. In 1977 Dad and Mom saw an opportunity and moved to Prince Albert where Dad worked for Pacific 66 and then North American Lumber. In 1980 Dad made the decision to begin working with teenagers in need, and so began his career as house parent of Sundance House. We watched many many young people thrive as they experienced the privilege of living and learning under Dad and Mom’s special care. He retired at the age of 65. Dad and Mom then moved permanently to their home on Emma Lake “Almost Heaven”. This special time together was cut short with Mom’s passing in 1993. His family was his whole life, and this we never doubted. Recent correspondence sent to Dad by some of his nephews provides a great description of who Dad was and what he meant to those he loved. “Tight lines and straight shooting” “I want you to know how greatly I have respected you, enjoyed your company, admired your good humour, tolerance and determination…..” “You were full of energy, good spirits, good stories and good ideas.” “I know that you have made a very big impact not only on my life but on so many others. You, Lloyd Young, are a very good man.” We’ll miss you Dad. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 29 from River Park Memorial Chapel. Pastor Dennis Serfas will officiate. A memorial service and interment of cremated remains will take place at Minnedosa Cemetery on July 11, 2009. Family and friends may send email condolences to www.riverparkfuneral.ca. It is the family’s request that in lieu of floral tributes, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. RIVER PARK MEMORIAL CHAPEL is entrusted with the care of the funeral arrangements. 764-2727, Don Moriarty, Funeral Director
