KEOUGH, William James - Aug 15, 1926- Nov 24, 2008 - The Keough family sadly announce the passing of William (Bill) on Monday, November 24, 2008 at his home at the age of 82. The youngest of John and Christina Keough's children, Bill was raised in Norwich, Ontario. After high school, he enlisted in the RCAF, then attended Queen's University, part of the famous, postwar class of Sci' 48 . He began his 35 year career with Imperial Oil in Sarnia where he met the ‘love of his life', Leona Bruce. Bill and Lee were married in 1952 and moved to Regina, the first of many moves that took them across Western Canada and into the US, and introduced them to a host of friends. Bill retired from the petroleum business in 1983 as Vice President Esso Petroleum, Canada. He then served on the Federal Commission on Lead in the Environment, and the Ontario Commission on the Safety of Ontario Hydro's Nuclear Facilities. He was a member of the Technical Advisory Panel on Nuclear Safety for Ontario Hydro and served 12 years on the Board of Hillcrest Hospital. He had a fascination with airplanes and was an active pilot until his late seventies. The deepest tragedy of his life was the untimely death of daughter, Gwen, in 1990. Bill was genuinely respected and admired by all who knew him. He lived all his days with a smile on his face, seeing only the best in others. He was a good friend and a mentor to many. He will be missed for his profound intellect, his wisdom, and for his remarkable good nature. He is survived by Leona, his wife of 56 years, Terry and Bruce Creighton, granddaughters, Alex and Sandy; Nancy and Andy McCartney, grandson Matt; brother Jack Keough and Bernice; sisters Jean Parkhill and Ruth Hillier; and eight nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the TURNER & PORTER YORKE CHAPEL, 2357 Bloor St. W., at Windermere, east of the Jane subway, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Humber Valley United Church, 76 Anglesey Blvd. Etobicoke, on Saturday, November 29, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. If desired, donations may be made to Lymphoma Foundation Canada, 16-1375 Southdown Rd. # 236 Mississauga, ON, L5J 2Z1 or at www.lymphoma.ca TURNER & PORTER 11334849
