GOODWIN, Robert Joseph 1927-2008 - Bob died peacefully at Kingston General Hospital at the age of 81 years. Bob was a dedicated member of the Canadian military while a serving member and as a proud decorated veteran. MWO Goodwin (Goodie) served in the Navy (RCNVR) from 1944- 1946, served as Sea Cadet Officer from 1947-51, and then joined the Dental Corps in 1951 until retirement in 1973, so that he could become a civilian denturist. Immediately following retirement, he and his wife (also a military member as a WREN) made Kingston their home. Bob owned and operated the Robert Goodwin Denture Clinic from 1974-1997. He was an active community member and inspired the same from his children, grandchildren and his friends. His longtime associations were with the Cataraqui Association, friends of HMCS Cataraqui working to foster good relationships among the naval family and the local community, and the Kingston Branch of the Navy League of Canada, a youth development support organization. For 60 years he was associated with youth development in his community. Bob volunteered each year to speak to both the local Navy League and Sea Cadet Corps in preparation of Remembrance Day and the local services. His message was always informative and inspiring. This year Bob attended the Naval Memorial Service, accompanied by his family, in order for him to passionately read the Act of Remembrance, to all in attendance, one last time. Bob loved his family and was regularly guiding and spoiling his grandsons and his great grandson, right up to the time of his death. Bob is survived by his wife, Marguerite (nee Despins), his daughter Janet (Brian McNulty), his grandsons Andrew and Michael (Amelia Hamilton and Issak), brother Geoff and sister-in law Ev. Bob was predeceased by his son Glen, his brother Thomas (Ev), his sister Mona (Bill Moore) his sister-in-law Heather (Geoff) and his parents Irene and Joseph. Bob requested that donations by cheque to the Kingston Branch Navy League of Canada, would be appreciated in lieu of flowers which may be sent directly or placed through the PAUL G. PAYNE FUNERAL HOME, Box 324, Odessa, 613-386-7373. Funeral Service is Tuesday Dec 2nd, 1300hrs (1 p.m.) at St Alban's United Church, 67 Main Street Odessa. Friends are invited to pay their respects to the family, at the Church from 1130 -1300hrs, just prior to the service. A private burial will occur at a future date. 11339531
