FREELANDT, Elizabeth Ann “Betty“ (Crowe) - In loving memory of Elizabeth “Betty“ Freelandt, 53 years, who passed away Thursday, November 13, 2008 in Cairo, Egypt. Born in Copper Cliff, she married Bernie in 1978. Beloved mother of Jennifer (husband Joel Humphrey), Andrew and Kristine (friend Craig Sanderson) all of Ottawa. Cherished grandmother of Makinley. Loving daughter of Ronald and Marion (nee Rathwell) Crowe of Azilda. Dear sister of Linda (husband Robert Godin), Jim (wife Debbie), Donald and Kevin, all of Azilda. Sadly missed by many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Special daughter-in-law and sister-in-law. Betty Freelandt's career with Cambrian College spanned 28 years, during which she held a variety of academic and administrative positions, including Professor in the Accounting program, Coordinator of the Accounting program, Chair of the School of Business, and Dean of Business, Media and Information Technology. She has been the Vice President, Student Services and Strategic Initiatives, since January 2002. In her capacity as Vice President, Student Services and Strategic Initiatives, Betty introduced a number of programs that focused on enhancing student life and student support services. A passionate advocate of college education, Betty has been instrumental in negotiating college/university agreements and in fostering closer ties between secondary schools and Cambrian College. Betty has been an active member of a number of provincial committees, including the provincial Student Services Coordinating Committee, which she has chaired. Locally, she served as the Administrative representative on the Cambrian College Board of Governors from 1997-2003 and is a member of the Board of Governors at Thorneloe University. A member of the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce, Betty has been a judge for the Chamber's Business Excellence Awards. She is also a member of the Sudbury Manitoulin Workforce Partnership Board. Betty has been the recipient of several awards and honours, including the Distinguished Administrator Award presented by the Ontario College Administrative Staff Association Doug Light Award for Administrative Excellence in 2008. In May of 2008, she was recognized by the Rainbow Schools for her commitment to enriching the educational experience of students with Rainbow Schools and for her outstanding contribution to the Dual Credit program. A graduate of Mary Mount College, Betty holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce from Laurentian University and a Master of Education degree and is a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants. Betty had a zest for life and was always looking for new challenges and opportunities. She enjoyed travelling, a good book and spending time with her children and grandchild. Betty was most frequently found side by side with Bernie on one of his many projects at camp. The most important and successful project was raising a wonderful family. Betty's family would like to take the opportunity to thank a truly international cast of angels who eased the burden of these recent days. Donations to the Elizabeth Freelandt Student Leadership Award. Resting at Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home with Funeral Mass at Christ the King Church. Day and time to be confirmed. Arrangements incomplete. 11328161
