OBITUARY MICHAEL ROY BAILEY Seventy-eight years old, late of Maple Ridge BC. Roy passed away peacefully with his family at his side at Ridge Meadows Hospital on Thursday, November 20, 2008. Roy was born June 25, 1930 in Montreal, Quebec. He is predeceased by his wife, Claudette (June 20, 2007); mother, Ellen Murphy, father, William Bailey and foster mother Christina (Aunt Teany) Hannon. He is survived by his children, Michael (Janice), Catherine (Gerald), Susan (Andrew), Christopher (Janet) and Patrick (Christina); grandchildren, William, Clarissa, Genny, Ashley, Connor, Caroline, Kendall and Kiernan along with his sister Christina Davies (Bill), brother George (Buddy) Bailey (Barbara), sister-in-law Jacqueline Gladman, nieces Patricia Davies and Marie Gladman and nephew Paul Gladman along with many former colleagues, close friends and other extended family members who will miss him dearly. Roy possessed an innate ability and remarkable intelligence and thirst for both learning and teaching. He attended the University of Montreal where he completed his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education, and went on to earn his Doctorate in Elementary Education from the University of Alberta. Over the course of 25 years, Roy served as a Teacher, Principal, and also a Regional Board Administrator for the Montreal Catholic School Board. In 1975, he moved his family to B.C., residing in Port Moody and working for the Vancouver School Board in Curriculum Development and as a Principal at Waverly, Bayview, and Southlands schools. Roy believed in contributing his service to improve conditions for both teachers and students, serving in leadership positions on several boards and organizational committees. He was commended often for his thoughtful leadership and innovative ideas and practices. He retired in 1989 and enjoyed taking many cruises and vacations with Claudette. One most memorable moment was when he kissed the Blarney Stone in Ireland! Roy took great pride in his family and the accomplishments, both big and small of all of his children and grandchildren. His commitment to family values and his faith in God gave him much strength in both good and difficult times.
