TORFE, Nicolina 2008-11-25 Mrs. Nicolina Torfe, age 83 years, passed away in St. Joseph’s Hospital, on Sunday, November 23, 2008, with her loving family at her side. Born in Castelpetroso Italy, Nicolina immigrated to Canada in 1954 with her two small children to join her husband, Pietro. She worked for a short time, but at home was where Mom loved to be so she could take care of, and of course, spoil her family with her wonderful cooking. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life. Mom was very religious and her prayers helped her during the most difficult times in her life. She was a faithful member of St. Dominic‘s Church. Left to mourn are her children, Tony (Megan), Maria (Elio) Bertoldo and Joanne (Stephen) Scerba, her grandchildren Patrick and Benjamin Torfe, Laura and Daniel Bertoldo, Mikayla and Ashley Scerba, sisters Sabina (Giancola), Bice Notte and Libera (Paride) Taffuri all of Thunder Bay. Nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. She was predeceased by her loving husband Pietro in February 1997, parents Adelina and Antonio Vacca, sister Gina Roarco in 2004 and brothers Annibale during WWII, and Mario Vacca in Italy. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. when family and friends will gather for the Funeral Mass in St. Dominic’s Church at celebrated by Rev. Dan Lapolla c.s. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Vigil prayers will be offered on Tuesday, evening at 8:00 p.m. in St. Dominic‘s Church. If friends so desire, memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Nicolina Torfe in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.
