CRAMER, Gerrit 2008-11-26 The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever 1 John 2:17 While vacationing in Holland, it pleased the Lord to call unto Himself into Glory, our husband, father, and Opa, Gerrit Jan Cramer at the age of 82. Gerrit Jan was born on September 5, 1926 and was raised in the Netherlands. He served three years for the Indonesian army, and then in 1953 he immigrated to Canada. On October 8, 1954 he married Gerritdina Breukelman and they purchased the dairy farm in 1957. Together they raised their family and operated the farm until they moved in 1991 to their retirement home on Candy Hill, a convenient place to oversee the valley. Gerrit Jan was an active member of the United Reformed Church of Thunder Bay and served many years in church council. More recently he enjoyed weekly men‘s Bible study and the prison ministry. He was also a strong member of the Thunder Bay Christian School society, even driving the bus for many years, and later volunteering for the Twice as Nice. Gerrit Jan enjoyed many activities in his retirement. He loved to curl, watch hockey, and he was always a reliable chauffeur service or courier for the farm. Gerrit Jan loved to visit with anyone and everyone; he had the ability to quickly make himself “at home” wherever he went. In the rare times that he wasn‘t busy he was probably on the phone with the weather station. “Pops”/Opa was very proud of his children and grandchildren, but more important than any accomplishment, his prayer was that they all would always walk with the Lord. His last weeks were spent doing so many things that he loved, always “op de fiets”, visiting family and friends in Holland. Gerrit Jan will be missed very much by his loving wife of 54 years, Gerritdina, and children and grandchildren: Alice & Andy Vis (Redcliff, AB): Theresa & Fraser (Haley, Nora), Dirk (fiancée Andrea), Keith, Kara; Fred & Alice: Carolyn & James (Benjamin), David & Tiffany, Richard, Lynda; Albert & Angie (Medicine Hat, AB): Ryan, Courtney & Steven, Jenna, Gary; Miriam & Harry Nutma (Calgary): Jeremy & Johanna (Sydney, Avyanne), Greg, Andrew & Heather (Logan), Alex & Leanne, Alyda, Levi, Caleb; Lydia & Bert Buitenhuis: Bryon, Deanna, Heather, Jason, Rachel; Connie & Derrick Dykstra: Peter(†), Michael, Jesse, Emily, Allison, Laura, Joanna, Glenn; Randy & Tammy: Amanda & Ryan (Lauren, Jared), Angie, Lindsay, Devin; Ray & Anita (Calgary): Daniel, Christopher, Alaina, Aaron; Gerrit & Kelly: Jami, Linden, Shelby, Collin, Joel. His siblings in Holland, Sjaan Cramer, Annie & Hendrik Plaggenmarsch, Ge & Dick Kortenhoeven, Bertus & Leny Cramer, and Hendrikus & Henny Cramer. Also by Dien‘s siblings, Sien Veurink, Aaltje Jaspers, Egbert & Minke Breukelman, Gerrit & Lena Breukelman, Fritz & Sylvia Breukelman, Tinie & Hans Bontius, and Ben & Ann Breukelman. Gerrit Jan was predeceased by grandson Peter Haveman, son-in-law John Haveman, parents Albert Jan & Altje , step-mother Gerritdina, brother Hans, parents in law Frederick & Mina Breukelman, in-laws Anton Buist, Anne Breukelman, Herman Jaspers and Hendrik Veurink. Gerrit Jan had an unwavering faith in the Lord and we are comforted to know that he now lives with our Father in Heaven. Visitation for family & friends will be held at the United Reformed Church (corner of hwy 130 and Arthur St.) on Thursday, November 27, 2008 from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 28, 2008 at 2:00pm at the United Reformed Church with Rev. Barry Beukema officiating. Internment will precede the funeral service at Stanley Hill Cemetery, leaving the church at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in honour of Gerrit Jan Cramer to the Thunder Bay Christian School. A tree will be planted in memory of Gerrit Cramer in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 28, 2009.
