GORMAN, Irene 2008-12-01 Mrs. Irene Gorman, age 82 years, passed away at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Thursday, November 27, 2008. Irene was born in Poland, on March 19, 1926 and emigrated to Canada with her parents and two brothers in 1931. She lived and went to school in the Kaministiquia area west of then Fort William. She married Philip Gorman (predeceased 1973) of Fort William in 1945. Irene was a floral arranger with Lecocq the Florist for 17 years, retiring in 1991. After that, she did floral arrangements on special occasions for Rollason Flowers. An excellent bowler, she accumulated many trophies and acknowledgments of her bowling skills. She was a member of the Holy Family parish, the War Amps of Canada through her husband Phil’s participation and his being wounded in World War 2 and the Vickers Heights Women’s Institute. Although a private person, Irene quietly volunteered to do a lot of the ’behind the scenes’ work for the Women’s Institute and community functions. Her home in Vickers Heights on the banks of the Kam River was her sanctuary, her flowers and gardens her passion. She enjoyed cooking and baking, her soups and cookies a specialty, and spent her quiet times either reading or doing word puzzles. Irene is survived by sons Jerry (Joyce) of Sudbury, Ron (Bonnie) of Corinth, Texas and grandchildren Michelle of Thunder Bay, Christopher of Montreal, Corrie Lynn of Toronto, Phil of Calgary and Jon and Sam of Texas. She was predeceased by parents Joseph and Bronistawa Purkot, brothers Joseph and Chester, brothers and sisters in-law Cecil (Gorman) and Louis Beaupre, Madeline (Gorman) and Chester Little, Lucien Gorman and Clarice Gorman. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 when family and friends will gather for the Resurrection Mass in Holy Family Church at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Anthony Fujarczuk. A private family interment will take place at Mountain View Cemetery at a later date. Visitation in the Blake Funeral Chapel on Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Vigil prayers will be offered on Tuesday evening at 8:00 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel. A tree will be planted in memory of Irene Gorman in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service, Sunday, June 28, 2009. On-line Condolences may be sent to
