Becigneul, Sister Therese SNJM (Sr. Gerard-de-la-Croix) Passed away peacefully at Holy Names Residence, Windsor, Ontario on July 19, 2004 at the age of 81 years and 10 months. Sr.Therese celebrated her Diamond Jubilee (60th) in June 2004 as a Sister of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. Born in Sandwich, ON, Sr. Therese is predeceased by her parents, Louis and Lucille (Robinet) as well as brothers, Adrien (1979); Louis (1981) and Raymond (1994) and sister Germaine(1992). Survived by her brother, Gerry (Kingsville), and sisters, Antoinette Ashley (Michigan), Martha Blyth (British Columbia) and Pauline (Northern Michigan). Sr. Therese began her teaching career in 1944 serving as classroom teacher and principal at Eclole-St. Robert, Ecole Notre Dame-de Bon-Secours, Ecole St. Jospeh (Riviere-aux-Canards), Ecole St Francois as well as high school teacher at St. Mary's Academy ending in the late 1980's at Assumption High School. Sr. Therese specialized in teaching French and Latin. She was loved by her students who continue to stay in touch with her. In the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Names, Sr. Therese served as Superior at St. Mary's Academy, was elected Province Leader of the Sisters of Holy Names, Ontario Province from 1971-1977. With her gift of two languages (Francais and English), she served as an interpreter for many years within the Congregation and other groups needing this service. For several years, Sister was involved in parish ministry at St. Agnes Church in Detroit. Retirement for Sr. Therese meant refocusing her interest, skills and gifts to the service of others. She actively participated in Amnesty International projects assuring herself to gather as much support as she could. The Sisters of the Holy Names are very grateful for the many gifts and variety of ways that Sr. Therese shared God's gift to her with the Community, the Church at large, her family, colleagues and friends. In the past years, it was evident to all who knew her that the Becigneul and Robinet families held a place of love, interest and care in Therese's life. Sr. Therese's legacy was her deep commitment to provide all peoples with the basics of life and she worked tirelessly. Resting at Holy Names Residence, 3140 Peter Street, Windsor, Ontario. Visitation July 20, 2004 from 2:30-4 p.m. and 6:30-8:30 p.m. with prayers at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass of Resurrection at 10:00 a.m. on July 21, 2004. Interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sr. Therese Becigneul may be made to SISTER OF HOLY NAMES for their work. Arrangements have been entrusted to the WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 1700 Tecumseh Rd. E. (253-7234)
