MELANSON, Walter James - 87, Gilbert's Cove, Digby Co., passed away June 7, 2004, in Tideview Terrace, Digby. Born August 2, 1916, he was a son of the late Martin and Lizzie (Thibault) Melanson. He worked with Canadian Pacific Railway at the Old Spurr Pier, Digby and finished with CN Marine, after the take over by CN in 1976. He was a faithful member in the Brotherhood of Railway and Airline Clerks retiring in 1981, after 35 years of service. After retiring from CN, he worked 16 years as a volunteer, maintaining the cemetery grounds for Holy Cross Parish. He is survived by his sons, Victor, Brampton, Ont.; Kenneth, Whitby, Ont.; Bill, Scarborough, Ont.; daughters, Joan (Mrs. Gord Nelson), Markham, Ont.; Jean (Mrs. Cyril Turgeon), Whitby, Ont.; Linda (Mrs. Wayne Hone), Brampton, Ont.; sisters, Miss. Levina Melanson, Halifax; Mrs. Louise Greene, Digby; Mrs. Kay Dukeshire, Wasaga Beach, Ont.; Mrs. Pauline Hicken, Gilbert's Cove, Digby Co.; eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Lillian (Robicheau); brothers, Bill, Louis and Herbert. Visitation will be from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday with prayers at 8:15 p.m., both in Jayne's Funeral Home, Weymouth North. Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday in Holy Cross Catholic Church, Plympton. Interment in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
