Lalemant, Sister Mary (Ellen Dufault) It is with sadness The Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie announce the death of Sister Mary Lalemant (Ellen Dufault), on Saturday, June 12, 2004 in the Infirmary of St. Joseph’s Motherhouse surrounded by her community and her nieces. Sister Mary Lalemant was born in Port Arthur, Ontario. She became a founding member of The Sisters of St. Joseph of Sault Ste. Marie in 1936. A teacher and principal, Sister taught in schools throughout Ontario including: Peterborough, Sault Ste. Marie, Port Arthur, Fort William, Sudbury, and Wikwemikong. Sister Mary Lalemant moved home to St. Joseph’s Motherhouse in 1980 where she worked for many years in the Congregation’s Archives finally retiring from active ministry in 1990. A wisdom figure with a wry sense of humour Sister Mary Lalemant will be remembered for her great love of life, enjoying everyone she met and enjoying everything she did. A historian she became a great resource person especially in the history of the Thunder Bay area, which she always loved. She enjoyed working with her hands and many projects were the result of this. An accomplished painter she worked on many statues and anything else she could repair for local churches. Sister Mary Lalemant was predeceased by her parents Eustache Dufault and Catherine Edge, brothers: Lawrence, George, Leo, Maurice and David and sisters: Mary Harriet Reed, Loretta Beaucage, Anne Beaucage and Agnes Petch. She is survived by a sister Genevieve Auger (of Thunder Bay) as well as several nieces. The body of Sister Mary Lalemant was received in the Holy Family Chapel of St. Joseph’s Motherhouse on Monday, June 14 at 2:00 p.m. There was a prayer Vigil at 7:30 p.m., Monday. The funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m.. Tuesday, June 15, 2004 in the Sacred Heart Chapel of St. Joseph’s Motherhouse, North Bay. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, North Bay.
