Sister Mary Anita (Sister Bridget O'Reilly) A Grey Sister of the Immaculate Conception, Pembroke, Ontario, died in Pembroke, Ontario on the 7th day of December, 2004 in the 75th year of her Religious Life. Left to mourn are her sisters, Dorothy Letters, Rita Fleurie, Julia Margaret O'Neill and Sister Teresa O'Reilly g.s.i.c., as well as one brother, Brother Michael Benedict of Scarborough and a sister-in-law Bernadette O'Reilly of Pembroke. In addition to many devoted nieces and nephews, Sister Mary Anita leaves to mourn her loss, many friends and the members of her Religious Community. Predeceased by her parents, Michael Daniel O'Reilly and Bridget Anne Houlihan, her brothers Pat, Leo, Michael, Andrew and Desmond, her sisters, Ann, Bernadette, Catherine and Margaret Mary. Sister Mary Anita was born on October 9, 1909 in Eganville, Ontario, one of a family of fourteen children. She entered the Grey Sisters of the Immaculate Conception on July 29th, 1930. During her many years of ministry, Sister Anita served primarily in the Health care profession. Following novitiate studies, she attended the School of Nursing at the Pembroke General Hospital, graduating and receiving her RN in 1932. Sister Anita remained at the Pembroke General Hospital, in a supervisory position, for the next five years. Subsequent ministry assignments led her to various other Hospitals and Homes, including Marianhill Residence in Pembroke, the Sault Ste. Marie General Hospital, St. Anthony's Hospital in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan and St. Joseph's Hospital in Lestock, Saskatchewan. In 1996, Sister Anita returned to Ontario to serve at Marianhill Residence in Pembroke, where she generously ministered for a period of twenty-one years. A committed and tireless worker, Sister Anita officially retired in 1985, continuing however, to volunteer her services at Marianhill Residence for the next eleven years. She moved to the Motherhouse in 1996, until failing health necessitated a transfer to Shalom Residence, Marianhill, in 2001. Resting at the Grey Sisters Motherhouse, 700 Mackay Street in Pembroke, Ontario on Wednesday, December 8th, 2004 from 3:30 p.m. followed by Special Vespers in the Chapel at 7:00 p.m. Liturgy of the Resurrection in the Motherhouse Chapel on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Members of the C.W.L. Cathedral Parish will meet for prayer at the Motherhouse on Wednesday, December 8th at 4:00 p.m. Interment in St. Columba's Cemetery, Pembroke, Ontario.
