Edward Schalla November 16, 1930 - December 08, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home It is with great sorrow that the family of Edward Schalla announces his death on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at the age of 74 years. He will be remembered by his wife of 43 years, Esther; sons Brian (Rita) and Kevin (Sandra); grandchildren Ricky, Jason, Jeffrey, Shawn and Tyler. He is survived by his brother Ferdinand; sisters Anne Vogt, Louisa (Dave) Falk and Eva McLaury; sister-in-law Suzie; brother-in-law Pete Harder, and many nieces, nephews and good friends. He was predeceased by his parents Friedrich and Augustina; brothers Johan, August, William and Herman; sister Maria Harder; brothers-in-law Don McLaury and John Vogt; and sisters-in-law Clara, Joan and Barbara. Dad was born in Steinbach, Manitoba. He began his plumbing career in Steinbach where he was employed by Barkman Plumbing & Heating. In 1954, he moved to Winnipeg and was employed by J.W. Bodner Company. He married Esther on September 9, 1961. In 1967, Dad began Brookdale Plumbing & Heating Ltd. with his brother-in-law John Vogt. He retired in 1992. Ed enjoyed working outdoors and traveling. He especially enjoyed the times spent with family and friends at their cabin in Petersfield. He was a dedicated family man who loved his family and spoiled his grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 13, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2528 King Edward Street with Rev. Jan Pastucha officiating. Viewing will take place prior to the service. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren Ricky, Jason and Jeffrey; nephews Darrell Schalla, Ray Schalla and Mike Matwiy. The family wishes to thank the staff of Seven Oak Hospital, especially Dr. Finlayson and the nursing staff on the 5th floor for the excellent care Dad received and for their kindness to the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the Immanuel Lutheran Church Parish Nurse Fund.
