WILLIAM “BILL” DELUCA 1913-2004 The family announces with profound sorrow the passing of Mr. Bill DeLuca at the age of 91 years on Sunday, December 12, 2004 at the Timmins and District Hospital after a 10 year long struggle with Alzheimers. Bill faced this ailment like a brave soldier. Bill is survived by his wonderful and loving wife of 64 years, Clara (nee Morandin). Also survived by two loyal daughters, Leah DeLuca (late husband Jack Simmons) of Newmarket and Roma Simunovic (husband Paul) of Timmins and by his devoted son Alan of Timmins and by his sister Lucy DeLuca also of Timmins. Bill is also survived by six terrific grandchildren: Audra Simmons of Toronto (husband Marc Ferraro), Derek Simunovic and Marisa Simunovic of Toronto, Elena Chomiak (husband Delvin) of Holland Landing and Sean Simmons and Wayde Simunovic of Timmins. Also survived by 3 great-grandchildren Marcello, Massimo and Angelo Ferraro of Toronto. Bill is also survived by his 3 nephews Peter, Lino and Mark Morandin and by his sister-in-law Frankie Morandin all of Timmins. He was predeceased by his sister Angela-Maria in Italy and by his loving parents Angelo and Carmela. Bill was born in the Apennine Mountains of Italy, region of Abruzzo. He emigrated to Canada at age 9 and landed at Ellis Island with his mother and sister along the big waves of immigrants to North America. The family settled in Timmins and Bill worked in his parents’ grocery store and then enrolled at National Technical Schools in Los Angeles where he graduated with high honors in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration in 1940. He then returned to Timmins to marry Clara and began work at the, then, Timmins Dairy. From there, he went on to pursue a successful career as a self-employed businessman. Bill was very respected in the business community of the day. He was a former member the Timmins Lions Club and the Moneta Recreation Club. As well, Bill was a member of the Porcupine Dante Club serving for many years on the executive and also as president on several occasions. Bill also served on the original Board of Directors of O’Gorman High School. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at Sacred Heart Church. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, remembrance donations to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. Bill’s family will be honoured to receive family and friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, 150 Balsam St. S. - 12/14/2004 - ID5370447
