William James Bown October 24, 1912 - July 21, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Sands Funeral Chapel (Duncan) Born October 24, 1912 at the District of Wells in the County of Sommerset, England to William and Elizabeth Bown. Bill immigrated to Canada with his parents in approximately 1918. The family settled in Prince George, BC. He lived in Vernon as an adult. He enlisted in the army from 1940-1945. October 31, 1942 he married Edith Amy Hughes. They resided in Victoria until her death October 30, 1979. He then moved to Duncan. Bill was also predeceased by his brother Frank, sisters; Annie, Dorothy Hale and Rose Simonson. Survived by his sisters;, Irene Lacosta & Mike, Inize Hryhoruk & Mike of Prince George, and Marg Rudolph of Fort Saskatchewan. Bill worked in the BC Provincial Museum for many years. In 1970 he attended BC Vocational School and completed the Building Services Works and retired from there in 1977. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 53 and can be remembered for his love of music, dancing and always amazed at the beauty of mother nature.. A Celebration of Life will be held at Sands Funeral Chapel, 187 Trunk Road, Duncan, BC on Sunday, July 25, 2004 at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow in Sands Arbor Reception Centre. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Bill may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the BC Cancer Society.
