Peter John Hirt August 24, 1916 - July 17, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Desjardins Funeral Chapel Peter John Hirt Sadly, Peter Hirt passed away on Saturday, July 17th in Winnipeg. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Grace, sister Elsie Schan, sister-in-law Mary Winstanley and many nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his parents Mary and Peter Hirt, and two sisters, Annette and Elizabeth, brothers-in-law Otto Schan, Jim Winstanley, Tom Winstanley and Jack Winstanley, sisters-in-law Bette Winstanley and Adelaide Winstanley. Peter was born on August 24, 1916 and grew up in the north end of Winnipeg. He served overseas in the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War. He met and married Grace, his wife of 58 years, in Glasgow, Scotland. During their married life they lived and enjoyed their homes in Winnipeg, Lester Beach and Phoenix. Peter was employed by Canada Packers, retiring in 1981 after 40 years of service. He loved to travel and reminisced of trips through Europe, Mexico and his ‘snow bird’ drives to Phoenix. Peter had a zest for life and a twinkle in his eye. He enjoyed his nature walks at Lester Beach, discovering new blueberry patches, planting his flowers and feeding the birds. Peter loved to tell stories and was always joking - always in the middle of things -- full of fun and laughter. He was a big man with a big heart who left a lasting impression on all of us; we will always remember him with a smile. Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 10:30 at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church (WK), 250 Burrin Avenue. Inurnment to follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery.
