MILLS, KATHERINE MARGARET Katherine Margaret Mills, 84, of Port Royal, Annapolis County died July 31, 2004 in the Annapolis Community Health Center, Annapolis Royal. Born in Hazel Grove, P.E.I. October 7, 1919, she was the eldest daughter of the late Andrew and Augusta (McPherson) Bagnall. She was educated in Charlottetown schools, Prince of Wales College, Acadia University and Ottawa Civic Hospital (Dietetics). She joined the staff of Maritime Central Airways (1944) in Charlottetown as a member of the Traffic Department. When the airline ownership changed hands (Eastern Provincial Airways) she chose to return to the field of Home Economics and teaching. She resumed studies at the University of New Brunswick and Purdue University to complete her MSC in education (1973) and accepted a position as Supervisor of Home Economics Education with the province of New Brunswick which she held until her retirement in 1985. Kay was a member of the United Church of Canada, Canadian and New Brunswick Home Economics Associations, life member of the New Brunswick Teachers Associations and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for over 60 years. A keen curler, she was a charter member and past president of Charlottetown Curling Club, Ladies division. Past president Capitol Winter Club Business Girls Curling Club and an active member of the Stanhope Golf Club. She is survived by her husband Captain Robert William Mills whom she married in 1992 and moved to Port Royal where she lived happily ever after. Also surviving are her son Thomas (Marilyn) Johnston of Calgary, sister Eleanor "Bobbie" Hinton of Summerside P.E.I., brother Richard Bagnall of Fredericton. She was predeceased by her first husband Lieutenant William Arnold Johnston who was lost at sea with the sinking HMS Itcher a British frigate in September 1943; a brother Edward. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Robert L. Hall Funeral Home, Bridgetown. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Thursday from Gordon Providence United Church, Bridgetown with Rev. Judith Perry officiating. A memorial service will be held in Stanhope, P.E.I. at a later date with interment of ashes in Summerside. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis West Health Palliative Care Unit at the Annapolis Community Health Center.
