CORKRAN, Dr. R. Gerald (Gerry). Dr. R. Gerald "Gerry" Corkran, eighty-three, of New Minas, Kings County, Nova Scotia, formerly of Quebec City, passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2004 in the Mira Long Term Care Centre, Truro. Born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, he was a son of the late Richard and Hazel (Ouimet) Corkran. He was a graduate from the medical program of McGill University in 1945. He interned for six years and in 1951 went to practice in the Jeffrey Hales Hospital in Quebec City, retiring following thirty-nine years of practice. While in Quebec, he volunteered with the Boy Scouts and as a first aid teacher of St. John Ambulance. Following his retirement, he moved to New Minas and had been a member of the Ken Wo Golf and Country Club and the Wolfville Curling Club. He was an avid gardener. He attended Acadia University graduating in 1997 with an Honors Degree in History. He was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Kentville and was a supporter of the Food Bank, New Minas. He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, the former Elizabeth "Betty" Lisson, Windsor; two daughters, Jane (Allan) Smith, Gananoque, Ontario; Gail (William "Bill") Denman, Windsor, Ont., and brother, Frederick "Fred", Shaker Heights, Ohio; four grandchildren, Jason Smith, Graham Denman, Geoffrey Smith, Allison Denman. There will be no visitation at the family's request. A funeral service followed by a reception will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 18, 2004 in St. James Anglican Church, Kentville, Reverend Lynn Uzans officiating. Burial will take place in the Garden of Rest Cemetery, at the Anglican Parish of St. James. Donations in memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation, The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the W. C.
