George Trueman Gillis June 14, 1918 - December 18, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Fair Haven Funeral Home George Trueman Gillis passed away December 18, 2004 at the Moncton Hospital. George was born in Sackville, NB, June 14, 1918, son of the late Percy A. Gillis and Eliza Trueman Ford. George Served in the Canadian Army (Active) from 1942-1946 with the No.7 District Depot, Saint John, NB, under the command of Lt. Col. W.A. McDougall. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Moncton Branch # 6, a Life Member of the CNR War Vets and a member of the CN pensioners Association. He was a graduate of Mount Allison University, Sackville, class of 1940, majoring in philosophy and history. He was interested in the promotion of the Mount Allison Continuing Education Program and served as a committee member and a life member of the Mount Allison Alumni Federation. George was Branch Manager of CNR Freight Sales in Saint John, assistant Area Sales Manager for the CNR, Newfoundland area, and was Freight Services Officer, Moncton, retiring in 1982. In Saint John he was active in the Rotary Club, a member of the Saint John Board of Trade and the Westfall Golf & Country Club. George was a world traveler with an interest in politics and a member of the Atlantic Numismatic Association. He was an avid sports fan with a love of tennis, golf and skating. He was a former member of the Mountain Ridge Golf Club, a member of the Bicentennial Skating Club and the Metro Skating Club, Moncton. He was a proud member of the Wesley Memorial United Church and a long time member of the church choir. He will be missed by his wife of 62 years, Christine (Francheville) Gillis, his son, George Peter Gillis, (Brenda), of Moncton, sisters-in-law; Helen Weathereston Gillis of Fredericton, Betty Francheville of Moncton, nephews; Dr. John Gillis of Fredericton, nieces Susan Hierlihy of Oakville, ON., Sally Gillis Caldwell, of Africa, and other nephews, nieces, cousins, and his many cherished friends. He was predeceased by his brother A. Stuart Gillis. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. A private family service will be held at a later date. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery.
