Mr. Helmer Hutchinson Funeral arrangements by Campbell's Funeral Home Helmer Byron Hutchinson age 88, of Amherst, passed away at home on August 2, 2004. Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late John Thomas and Mary (McKinley) Hutchinson. After graduating from Nova Scotia Normal College he earned his BA and B. Ed from Mount Allison University and completed the program in Education Administration at the University of New Brunswick. Helmer taught for 42 years and forty -nine days in the schools of Nova Scotia; of these 37 years were in Amherst. He enjoyed working with his students and was an enthusiastic supporter of their activities. Helmer was a member of Trinity St. Stephen's United Church, Amherst and served on the Board of Trustees for over 30 years. He was active in the community through his involvement in the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Red Cross, VON and served on the Board of Directors of Highland View Regional Hospital. Helmer was a Life Member of the Amherst Rotary Club and in 1987 received their distinguished service award. He is survived by his daughter Heather (Ian) Bourne of Calgary, Alberta and his son Peter Hutchinson of Halifax, two grandchildren Ann of Toronto and Steven of Seattle, Washington, three nieces Holly, Charlotte and Anne Hutchinson and two nephews John and William Hutchinson. Helmer was predeceased by his wife the former Inez Amberman and two brothers Graham and Douglas. Cremation has taken place. His family will receive visitors at Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst on Saturday, August 28, 2004 from 2-4 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 29, 2004 at 2 p.m. from Trinity St. Stephen's United Church, Amherst with Rev. Patti Blundell officiating. Interment will take place in the Amherst Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Red Cross Society, the VON or the charity of your choice. www.campbellsfh.com
