OBITUARY BARBRA WARREN FLEWELLING (married name Barbra Ford) in St. John, New Brunswick on October 29, 1924, she passed away on July 11, 2009 in Westmount, Quebec after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Beloved mother of Chip (Christine), Maribeth (Richard) and Timothy (Penelope) and loving grandmother of Jessica, Victoria and Sarah. She is survived by her sister Helen Coffman and niece Barbra-Ann Meyer and nephew Mark Coffman. Barbra was a unique spirit who loved to entertain (singer and dancer with Don Mercer 1941-1942) and a dedicated health professional (registered nurse - Royal Victoria Hospital 1942-1952), school nurse at Beaconsfield Elementary and Beaconsfield High School (1967-1974), Head of Health Services at Lakeshore School Board (1975-1978) and Health Department at John Abbott College (1975-1984). Barbra returned to university in 1979 to complete her degree and received her degree Suma Cum Laude from Concordia. In retirement, Barbra taught English as a second language and was a docent at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. She was a dedicated supporter and organizer of hospital and church charity events and fundraisers, and was sustained throughout her life and illness by her unwavering Christian faith. Barbra was a terrific listener, mentor and loyal friend to many, who always gave her support freely but chose to never take. Her life touched many and she believed giving was the best gift. As a mother, one could ask for no better and her children and grandchildren will love her always and will miss her dearly. "Mom, you can come home now." The family wishes to thank Barbra's many friends and extended family who have offered support and condolences. In keeping with Barbra's wishes, there will be no funeral service. She always loved a party, so a wake to celebrate her life is planned for September 19, 2009. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada ( or call 1-800-616-8816) and/or the Montreal Neurological Institute ( or call 514-398-8825).
