Jacob Meier Funeral arrangements by Regina Funeral Home MEIER, Jacob C. In the late evening hours of December 25, 2004, Jacob C. Meier, “J.C.” passed away peacefully at the age of 95. J.C., son of Daniel Meier and wife Wilhelmina (Wittal), the fifth of the couple’s nine children, was born October 2, 1909 on the family farm in the Balgonie district. Following his graduation from Normal School, J.C. taught at Lady Smith School. After one year of teaching he returned to farming, his true passion and what was to be his lifelong career. In 1945 he married Alma Brodt and they lived and farmed in the Balgonie district throughout their married life. At different times over the years he farmed with each of his sons before finally retiring at the age of 88. During his lifetime he spent many years as secretary of New Ontario School District, served faithfully on council of St. John Lutheran Church, served ten years on the Zoning Review Board of the R.M. of Edenwold and five years on the Executive Committee of the Western Canada Synod of the United Lutheran Church in America. J.C. was predeceased by his wife, Alma, in 1983; a brother, Christian, who died in infancy; his parents; his sisters, Amelia, Helen and Louise; and brother, Harold. He is survived by his sons, Barry (Heather), Brian (Sharmaine) and Douglas (Anne); grandchildren, Erin Meier (Adam Scraba), Ben Meier, Jaret (Tarra) Meier, Courtney Meier (Cory Tremeer), Michael (Mica) Meier and Stuart Meier (Kathlene Jacobson); sisters Freda Mang and Eleanor Becker; and brother, Dave (Helen) Meier; sisters-in-law, Emma Brodt, Charlotte Meier, Ruth Brodt and Lorraine Brodt. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Val and Gerald and the wonderful staff at Royalty Home Care for the compassionate care Dad received during the last three and a half years. A Memorial Service celebrating J.C.’s life will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, Correction Line Road, six miles north of Balgonie (Highway #364) and one mile west, on December 30, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Linda Wowk officiating.
