In 1945 he married Alma Brodt and they lived and farmed in the Balgonie district throughout their married life. At different times over the years he farmed with each of his sons before finally retiring at the age of 88. During his lifetime he spent many years as secretary of New Ontario School District, served faithfully on council of St. John Lutheran Church, served ten years on the Zoning Review Board of the R.M. of Edenwold and five years on the Executive Committee of the Western Canada Synod of the United Lutheran Church in America. J.C. was predeceased by his wife, Alma, in 1983; a brother, Christian, who died in infancy; his parents; his sisters, Amelia, Helen and Louise; and brother, Harold. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Val and Gerald and the wonderful staff at Royalty Home Care for the compassionate care Dad received during the last three and a half years.
