Carlene A. Whidden (née Black) December 17, 1963 - August 26, 2004 - 40 years of Hastings Road, Amherst, N.S. Died Thursday August 26, 2004 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Center, Upper Nappan, after a long battle with breast Cancer. The loving daughter, wife, mother and friend is survived by her parents Ian and Joan (Peers) Black; step mother Darlene, as well as her devoted and loving husband Mark. The Center of Carlene's world was her daughter Amanda. Seeing Amanda grow and mature brought great joy and comfort to a caring mom. Many aunts, uncles, numerous cousins, special friends and neighbors are going to miss her special sense of humor. Carlene was predeceased by her maternal grandparents John and Iota (Reid) Peers and paternal grandparents Roy and Mabel (Burns) Black. Carlene graduated from West Highlands Elementary School, Pugwash District High School and Miss Murphy's Business College. Her work Journey began at Poly-Cello continuing on to Athol Forestry Cooperative Ltd, where she enjoyed 20 years as office administrator. Her vision to be a part of a successful organization was respected and admired by her co-workers, board of directors, woodlot owners, family and friends. Carlene was involved with the West Highland Home and School advisory Council and designed the West Highlands Heritage Special Occasion Cards. She also played a leading role in the campaign to save the West Highland School. In support of Amanda's interests Carlene is a past President of the Amherst Skating Club and was a volunteer at the Dieppe Skating Club, N.B. Cremation has taken place. Her Family will receive visitors on Saturday August 28, 2004 from 7-9 p.m. A Celebration of Carlene's life will be held 2 p.m Sunday August 29, 2004 at First Baptist Church, Amherst with Rev. Donald Miller officiating. Donations in her memories may be made to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center, Palliative Care Unit or donors choice.
