Kenneth Orser Funeral arrangements by Regina Funeral Home ORSER, KEN 1914 – 2004 “The Leader of the Band” passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, September 14, 2004. Ken was predeceased by his loving wife, Christina of 54 years. Ken is survived by his daughters, Jeannie (Terry) and Judith (Troy); two sons, James and Jerry (Ruby); loving grandchildren, Troy (Nicole), Todd, Joanna (Chris), Natielle and Karlee; and great-grandchildren, Tara, Amanda, Stephan, Megan, Brandon and Matthew as well a numerous nieces and nephews. Ken joined the armed forces in 1938 retiring in 1965 after serving 26 years. During his army career, he was the bandmaster of the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadian) Warrant Officer First Class. Ken also served overseas during his army career in Germany and Korea. Ken moved to Regina in 1965 and became director of the Regina Police Boys’ Band. Ken taught in the school division in Swan River, Manitoba later moving to teach with the Potashville School Division in the Yorkton area. Ken accepted an offer returning to Regina to again direct the Police Boys’ Band and was instrumental in bringing female musicians into the organization; therefore becoming the Regina Police Junior Band until his retirement in the early 1980’s. Music was Ken’s life. He loved to sing and mastered all musical instruments. He loved the Toronto Blue Jays and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Ken was fortunate to enjoy living in his own home up until July 2004. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
