Hilda Owsianicki, 81, died October 22 at Brockville General Hospital after a brief illness. She was born Hildegarde Elizabeth Fickinger on June 16, 1923 in Breda, Holland, the youngest of four children of John Fickinger and his wife, the former Nancy Vadar. She married Joseph Owsianicki and in 1950 they immigrated to Canada with their son Nicholas. They lived in Hamilton, Ont. In the later years of her working life, she was a supervisor at the Mohawk Regional Laundry. She retired in the late 1970s and travelled extensively through Europe, the United States and western Canada with her friend and companion Jack. She was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 58, in Hamilton. She enjoyed cooking, and her homemade soups were always simmered to perfection. She loved music, dancing and "win or lose" playing the slot machines. She was known as a generous and cheerful person. Mrs. Owsianicki is survived by her only son, Nick Owsianicki and his wife Lynda and their Shayne of Brockville, and two grandsons, Michael Owsianicki and wife Olga and their daughter Sofia of Toronto and Paul Owsianicki of Athens. Also surviving are a special friend Denise Owsianicki of Athens and a dear friend and companion Earl Cowel of Ottawa. A small gathering was held at the Barclay Funeral Home, Brockville, on October 26. The committal service on October 27 at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery was officiated by Father Tim Harrison.
