Kay Yates, 89 SHERRILL, N.Y. -- Kathaleen "Kay" I. Leeder Yates, 89, of 600 West Hinds Avenue here, died November 7 at the Oneida Healthcare Centre with her family at her side. She was born on July 18, 1915 in Toledo, Ont., a daughter of Cleve and Florence Fenlon Leeder. She attended Mitchell Public School and Athens High School. On September 17, 1938 she married John C. Yates in Montreal. She and her husband moved from Toronto to Sherrill, N.Y., in 1956. She was a clerk for W. T. Grant's and later worked for Hinman's Jewelers in Oneida. Mrs. Yates was a very active member of St. Helena's Church, serving as a past president of the Altar Rosary Society. She was also a very active member of the Catholic Daughters of America No. 1250, where she held many offices. She was a volunteer at McAllister School and the Oneida Healthcare Centre and was a member of the CAC and retirement club. She is survived by her only daughter, Lois (given name Mary) Yates Piergiorgi of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and her son-in-law Michael, granddaughters Maureen Kane and Paula Torbet and husband Bradley Torbet, and great-grandsons Michael Torbet and Myles Kane. Also surviving are her brother Wilfred Leeder and his wife Jean of Toledo and several nieces and nephews. Her only son, John Yates, was killed in 1954 and her husband John died in 1979. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Geraldine Kane and Betty Culhane. Friends called at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 464 Sherrill Road, Sherrill, N.Y. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated November 10 at St. Helena's Church on Primo Avenue and burial was at St. Helena's Cemetery, Oneida, N.Y.
