Hazel Kirkland, 89 Hazel Catherine Kirkland, 89, of Nepean, formerly of Bethel, died October 12 in Nepean. She was born February 19, 1915 at Haley's Corners, Augusta Township, to Robert Fox and the former Grace Barton. She was raised and educated at Haley's Corners and helped on the family farm. Then she moved to Brockville and worked as a domestic for the Mallory family. On March 25, 1939 she married Hilliard Kirkland in Brockville and they lived on Highway 2 (now County Road 2). She was a homemaker while her husband worked for Ralph's Dairy. They moved to Bethel in 1951 and she lived there until December 1998, when she moved to Nepean. She spent her summers at her home in Bethel and her winters at her daughter's home in Nepean. She was a former member of St. James' Anglican Church in Maitland and a member of St. George's Anglican Church and a former member of its guild. Mrs. Kirkland enjoyed knitting, sewing, gardening and flowers. Her home and family were very important to her and she was known as "GM" (Grand Ma) by the young people in the family. Her husband Hilliard died in 1992, but she is survived by her son Raymond and his wife Sylvia of RR 1, North Augusta, and by her daughter Lois Bourboun and her husband Abder (Albert) of Nepean. Also surviving are two brothers, Harry Fox of Maitland and Charlie Fox of RR 3, Prescott, and five sisters, Eliza Reid and Lula Rennick, both of Brockville, Lucy Wing of RR 1, Brockville, Evelyne Plant and husband Ed of RR 2, Brockville, and Beatrice Smith of Maitland. She leaves five grandchildren, Gregory Kirkland and wife Lisa of Wawa, Anthony Kirkland and wife Elizabeth of Maitland, and Malika, Amira and Nassima Bourboun of Nepean, and four great-grandchildren, Colin, Lyndsi, Shayne and Scott. Mrs. Kirkland was predeceased by her sisters Margaret Fox and Mildred Wooffinden and brothers Gordon, John, Elmer and Mansel Fox. Friends called at the Barclay Funeral Home, Brockville, where on October 16 the funeral was held, with Rev. Gerry Ring officiating. Burial followed at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland. The pallbearers were Abder Bourboun, Malika Bourboun, Nassima Bourboun, Anthony Kirkland, Gregory Kirkland and Roger Wing. The honorary pallbearers were Amira Bourboun, Richard Rennick, Gordon Fox, Glen Kirkland and Brian Plant. Memorial donations were directed to the Arthritis Society.
